Amudarya State Reserve: founded in 1982 within Farab, Galkynysh and Darganata Etraps of Lebap Velayat. The main goal of the reserve is the protection of tugais of the Amudarya river valley and of rare and endangered species living in and near the river, such as sturgeons (Pseudoscaphirhynchus hermanni and P. kaufmanni), reptiles {Phrynocephalus rossikowi, Al-sophylax loricatus), pheasant, red deer, Persian gazelle and others. Its area is 49,500 hectares.
